Pay on the Shoup ladder follows Donald Shoup's rule for parking in San Francisco. Once a week each task counts its takers (our postings) or answers (yours) against its slots. Over 80% full, one step down; under 60%, one step up; in between, no change. A task moves at most three steps from where it opened.
